Pankaj Tripathi had told in an interview that after 12th he went to Patna where he did a course in hotel management. After doing a course in hotel management, he started working in a hotel.

After doing a course in hotel management, Pankaj Tripathi became an assistant chef at Maurya Kitchen in Patna. It was there that he met Manoj Bajpai for the first time. Once Manoj Bajpai was staying at Maurya where he forgot his rubber slippers while checking out.

When Pankaj Tripathi came to know that Manoj Bajpai’s slippers were left behind, he went to the housekeeping and asked for them and kept them with himself. Pankaj considers Manoj Bajpai as his Guru, that is why he considered his slippers as wooden sandals and kept them with him.

Along with working in a hotel, Pankaj Tripathi also used to do theatre. He did not like working in the kitchen. He used to work as a chef during the day and go to the theatre in the evening. When Pankaj was facing problems in his job due to theatre, he got himself assigned night duty. In which he used to clean the kitchen from 11 pm to 7 am and then go to the theatre.
